“Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration,” Thomas Edison often said. A few years into serious writing, and I can’t agree more.
I recently visited Thomas Edison and Henry Ford’s winter estates, in Ft. Myers, Florida. To say I was inspired would be an understatement.
How can you not admire a man who patented more inventions than any other living American? Most of those inventions have completely changed our lives, and we take the conveniences he created for granted. Mostly because, we don’t know he had anything to do with them.
But some of Edison’s greatest creations were the sentences he left us. Sentences of inspiration, encouragement, and challenge.
Today, I’d like to share the legacy of one of Edison’s thoughts. This one keeps me going when I feel like giving up.
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try one more time. Thomas Edison
I also challenge you as Edison did, to try one more time. Do not give up, do not crumble in weakness, but make your way to success, one attempt at a time.
Who knows? You may create something that changes the world as we know it. Of all the patents Edison filed, he doesn’t have one on legacies.
How do you prompt yourself to action when you feel like giving up? Do you know how Edison changed your life?
