Success. Something we all aspire for. But now that I’ve gotten a tiny taste, I thought I’d share some surprising lessons I’ve learned about it.
2. Sometimes it’s necessary to unplug in order to shine brighter. Instinct says we must always be on the move in order to succeed, but I’ve found when I stop, drop, and pray, unimaginably wonderful things happen.
3. Getting started is the hardest step to take. Everything in the world will try to distract you from doing what you were made to do. Resolve is required to begin anything worthwhile.
4. Achieving your dreams will not fill emptiness in your soul, or solve all the problems in your life. However, living in your purpose will give you a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Discovering what God created you for is the greatest self-esteem builder known to man.
5. Your greatest cheerleaders are often people you don’t expect, and your greatest naysayers are often people close to you, but none of it matters that much. What matters is what God thinks about how you spend the seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years of your existence. If He is happy with your success, then He will have your back when unhappy people attack, and He’ll ground you when you start flying too high.
You are more than the sum of your successes and failures. You exist to honor God and love others through action — how you do that is as unique as the individual mix of your DNA strands. Our messy lives qualify us to become message bearers: offering hope, encouragement, and inspiration to our fellow man. If we succeed in that, we’ve experienced a life well lived.
